Case Study: Northcliffe West Oscars Events

The Task

Every year, Northcliffe West holds a glamorous awards event with the sole purpose of recognising and rewarding their workers achievements and efforts throughout the year.

In the first year that it ran, AN Event Services were called in to help create a precedent for what became a key event in the calendar both for the company and its employees in playing a major role in lifting and maintaining staff morale, as well as creating a sense of anticipation for the year ahead.

The awards were given an ‘Oscar’ style theme, which was sure to create excitement leading up to the event. But it was up to AN Event Services to make sure the event lived up to its name.

The Solution

We really took it on to bring this theme to life through the right set, lighting and sound equipment. But we also had to consider features that Northcliffe West Region had already sourced, namely live singers and casino tables and ensure that we created a set that would cater for all of this.

We produced a set that took centre stage with 2 large projection screens, making it the main focal point. We then dressed the stage with an ‘Oscar’ style red carpet, to create the perfect, glamorous backdrop for people to pick up their awards.

To make the live singers a main feature, we used 8 speakers, all distributed evenly around the room, which were controlled by 3 amplifiers and an audio mixer with multiple outputs. The singer used a Sennheiser handheld mic to make sure she was heard from any part of the room.

And to really bring this all to life through the lighting, we used a mixture of static lighting on a ceiling hung truss as well as LED lights and moving lights (controlled by a remote computer) which together, produced a colour and changing lighting effect.

The Result

The night was a complete success. Although this was Northcliffe West’s first year of running the awards event, they were so pleased with the result, that we’ve been doing it every year since! We could go on, but the pictures really speak for themselves.

AN Event Services really put on a performance worthy of an Oscar….!

Case Study: Stoke Sentinel Bridal Exhibition Fashion Show

The Task

Organising a catwalk or a fashion show can always be quite tricky. Getting models ready, organising their outfits and making sure everything runs on time, is stressful. It takes a good events planner to hide the chaos going on behind the scenes and to instead, focus the audiences’ attention on the glitzy catwalk.

So, when the fashion show is located in a venue where the only space for any changing facilities for the models, is directly behind the stage facing the audience, it’s going to be no easy task. Add to that, the fact that it’s a wedding exhibition so models would be getting changed into big and puffy wedding dresses, hence needing a lot of space, without the audience noticing!

This is exactly what AN Event Services were tasked with by Stoke Sentinel for their Bridal Exhibition Fashion Show . As well as providing all the sound, and lighting for two one hour long fashion shows, we also had to provide a backdrop to cover the width of the room which was 21 metres whilst keeping the focus on the 2 metre wide catwalk entrance and allowing the models to change in privacy.

The Solution

As our biggest challenge was the backdrop, we focused our efforts on this first. We designed a panelled set in white PVC to keep the focus purely on the models entrance. We then contrasted this with black drapes on the sides to allow the models privacy whilst they were changing into their outfits. Finally, we built a 7.5m panelled wall behind the entrance, covering it in white PVC, so that the audience couldn’t see around the set.

We focused the lighting to solely highlight the centre of the room where the catwalk was and using the house lighting controls we were able to achieve a star effect for the ceiling.

The Result

The backdrop we designed worked really well on keeping the audiences focus on the catwalk entrance only, whilst allowing enough room and privacy for the models to get changed.

As a result, the whole Fashion Show ran smoothly and on time. And we have been called back to do their fashion shows ever since!

"The AN Event Services crew always attends our twice yearly Wedding Event, which is one of the biggest and most popular of our events. They work very closely with our modeling agency to co ordinate the catwalk show and are extremely professional throughout.

Their expertise and knowledge is invaluable to exhibitors and ourselves and ensures a successful and smooth running event every time."

Case Study: South West Dealmakers Awards @ Bristol Marriott Hotel

The Task

The South West Dealmakers Awards is a night to celebrate major corporate financial companies in this region of England. It’s a prestigious event and the year previously, they held a successful gala awards evening, arranged by a different events company. The following year, AN Event Services were tasked with setting up a similar event, but with the ability to vote live by keypad on the night, as an added feature to make it more exciting and tense, and all on a tighter budget.

The Solution

We immediately looked through the previous event companies supply list, and after a consultation with the client, we reduced the amount of items they needed, thus saving them money before we’d even started that actual job.

The set had to reflect a professional award ceremony platform to really get the audience into the swing of things with the live voting. So, we designed a set comprising of panels covered in PVC and Felt for the screen centre, a frame of Starcloth either side of the screen to make it look that extra bit glitzy, and a relay screen at the back of the room in the ceiling, to ensure everyone got a glimpse of the action, and the faces of those that won!

The live voting was done on a table basis with about 40 tables voting. Each table had a keypad and voted for the majority decision made by the table members. The results were then processed by computer and the result handed to the compere to announce.

The Result

The night was a complete success as was the live voting. The dinner guests loved the novelty of live voting which added an air of tension to the final award. Not only could they see who the nominees were but they could then vote for whoever had made the best deal in the Southwest! It really made the night seem like an extra special awards ceremony.

"AN Event Services provided a stunning visual effect for our awards; they overcame all the challenges we put in their way, even obtaining a live voting system for our final award. I know the guests enjoyed this novel aspect to an awards evening, my table definitely did.

They were, as always, very professional throughout, from our very first meeting until the end of our awards."
